Graffiti is a historically male-dominated and clandestine field. Yet for the first time, it is seen globally as a rising art form. The sex trafficking industry and graffiti have several things in common. They are conducted secretly, there is a myriad of planning and techniques involved in their execution, and their actions are illegal. The difference? Once a wall is “defaced” it can be painted over. A woman’s life comes with no simple fix. Handle with Care Project hopes the stark juxtaposition of the “underground” graffiti movement and the global sex trafficking industry will unveil the overlooked atrocity, which robs women of their lives. Participating street artists have and continue to use graffiti's growing power as a visual mass-communicator to raise awareness of this issue. Our participating artists have rooted their work in this cause and have found inspiration in giving women and children back their lost voice.
